Volcanic Wine Tasting in Lanzarote at Jable de Tao
A private visit to a young island winery, with the people who farm its vines and make its wine. From one hour in the bodega to three hours through its vineyards, reserved for your group alone.

The landscape, bottled
Nowhere else is wine grown quite like this. On Lanzarote each vine sits in a hollow dug through a layer of black volcanic gravel, the rofe, down to the older soil beneath, behind a low stone wall that breaks the trade wind. The gravel holds the night's moisture on an island where it barely rains. What ends up in the glass is that landscape.
Jable de Tao is a young winery working old vines in plots across the island, from La Geria to Tenesar on the west coast. Your visit is private, for your group alone, with the team that farms those vines and makes the wine. It is a small project, not a visitor centre: your group, the people behind the wine, and the bottles on the table.

A young island winery, not a tourist bodega
Jable de Tao was born on Lanzarote and released its first vintage in 2022. Its name comes from jable, the pale sand of marine origin that covers part of the island and is one of the two soils its vines grow in. The other is rofe, the black volcanic gravel that gives La Geria its colour.
Every visit is led by the winery's own team, the people who prune, harvest and make the wine. On the longest visit their technical team takes you through the plots themselves, explaining the varieties, the geology and the way each vineyard is farmed.
Your booking, questions and practical details are handled by us in your own language. Tell us which language you would like for the visit when you request availability, and we confirm it with the winery before anything is booked.

What sets these visits apart
One private group
Your group and no one else, up to six people. No shared tasting, no strangers at the table, no timetable set by a coach.
Tasted with the people who make it
The team that farms the vines and makes the wine leads every visit, so your questions go straight to the source.
Volcanic viticulture on the ground
On the two vineyard visits you stand among the hollows and stone walls and see why the vines grow low, and how they are worked by hand.
Vines on their own roots
Phylloxera never reached the Canary Islands, so vines here still grow on their own roots, as they did before the plague changed winemaking in mainland Europe.
A wine before it is bottled
The two-hour visit includes a wine still in the making. The three-hour visit goes further, with wines tasted straight from the barrel.
One, two or three hours
A tasting at the bodega, the bodega and a vineyard, or a full wine tour through several plots across the island. Each visit is complete in itself.
Choose your visit
Three visits, from one hour in the bodega to three hours across the island's vineyards. Rates are per person and fall as the group grows, with a minimum of two guests. Tell us your date and group size and we confirm availability and the final price before anything is booked.
