Century-Old Vines at La Verea, a Family Winery in Tinajo
A private visit to the Cabrera Bernal family's winery, led by the person who makes the wine. A two-hour tasting in the bodega, or four hours from the vines to the winemaker's table, for your group alone.

A narrow path through ash and basalt
In the eighteenth century the eruptions of Timanfaya buried Tinajo under a thick layer of volcanic ash. Winegrowers here still dig each vine a hollow down through that ash to the old soil beneath, and ring it with a low wall of stone. The ash keeps the night's moisture on an island that barely sees rain, and the Atlantic trade wind keeps the vines fresh through the summer.
La verea means a narrow path, and this visit follows one into a single family's world in Tinajo, in the north-west of Lanzarote. You taste wines in the bottle and wines still ageing, drawn straight from the vessels they rest in, and the longer visit adds a vineyard tour and a home-cooked meal. The winery is part of the winemaker's home: a small family project, not a visitor centre.

A grandfather's vineyard, a family's winery
La Verea begins in Hoya la Perra, in the heart of Tinajo, where malvasía and listán negro vines more than a hundred years old still grow. Juan Cabrera Cabrera worked this vineyard, and his grandson, brought out from Tajaste by donkey and cart, grew up playing among its vines. Today Joaquín Cabrera, Eli Bernal and Sergio Cabrera run the winery.
Their bodega in Tinajo is built for minimal intervention, laid out so that gravity does the work. The wines ferment in concrete eggs with the grapes' own yeasts and age for ten months before bottling. Every visit is led by the person who tends the vines, makes the wines and looks after them as they age, in a winery that is part of the winemaker's home.
The visit itself is led in Spanish, with simple explanations in English where you need them. Your booking, questions and practical details are handled by us in your own language. Tell us which language you prefer when you request availability, and we'll confirm it with the winery before anything is booked.

What sets these visits apart
One private group
Your group and no one else, up to six people. No shared tasting, no strangers at the table, no timetable set by a tour coach.
With the person who makes the wine
The visit is led by the person who tends the vines and makes the wine, with time to talk, ask questions and enjoy every glass.
Vines older than a century
Juan Cabrera Cabrera worked the family vineyard in Hoya la Perra. Its malvasía and listán negro vines have stood in the ash for more than a hundred years.
Wines still ageing
Both visits include wines that are not yet in bottle, drawn straight from the vessels they age in, to show how time shapes each one.
Driven out to the vines
On the vineyard visit the winemaker drives you from the bodega to the vines and back, so the only drive you plan is the one to Tinajo.
A home-cooked meal at La Verea
The four-hour visit ends around the table at the winemaker's home, with a meal cooked for the occasion. On some days it is a barbecue.
Choose your visit
Two visits, two hours in the bodega or four hours from the vines to the table, from September to June. Rates are per person, for up to six guests. Tell us your date and group size and we'll confirm availability and the final price before anything is booked.

Maximum 6 people
4 HOURS
From the Vine to the Table
€300per person
A first tasting among the vines, on the volcanic soil where it all begins. Back at the bodega, bottled wines and wines still ageing, straight from the vessel. Then a home-cooked meal at the winemaker's table, made for the occasion, which on some days is a barbecue.
Maximum 6 people, subject to seats in the vehicle
INCLUDED
- A private visit for your group alone, led by the person who makes La Verea's wines
- The tasting of the visit you choose, as listed above
- On the two-hour visit, a cheese board with the tasting
- On the four-hour visit, the drive from the bodega to the vineyard and back, and the home-cooked meal
- Booking and every practical detail handled by us in your language
NOT INCLUDED
- Getting to the bodega in Tinajo. Every visit starts and ends there
Every visit includes a tasting, so if you are driving to the bodega, decide in advance who will be at the wheel. For the vineyard, wear comfortable shoes for volcanic ground and bring sun protection. The wines poured depend on what is available and how each one is developing. The start time, the pace, allergies or dietary needs and any accessibility requirements are settled with us before the day. For more than six guests, ask us and we'll agree the details with the winery beforehand.
